This Review is for the Alfa Pet brand Liquid L Lysine for Cats – Aid for Watery Eyes, Sneezing & Allergy – Supplement with Taurine & Vitamins for All Breeds – Cat Probiotic for Digestion Care – Natural Chicken Flavor – 2 oz + 2 oz Pack ($29.99/2pk)
L-lysine is an essential amino acid for cats, primarily used to support immune function, especially for feline herpesvirus (FHV-1), and help manage upper respiratory issues like sneezing and eye discharge by aiding antibody production and reducing viral replication. It’s available as supplements (powders, gels, chews) and can also support calcium absorption for bone health. Vet consultation is recommended for proper dosage and safety, especially since it competes with another essential amino acid, arginine.
Uses and Benefits:
Immune Support: Boosts antibody formation to fight off infections, particularly viral ones like FHV-1 (feline herpes).
Respiratory Health: Reduces severity and duration of sneezing, nasal discharge, and conjunctivitis.
Ocular Health: Supports eye health and can alleviate herpes-related eye issues.
Bone Health: Aids in calcium absorption, crucial for growing kittens and older cats.
Since we live in an Older Home, in the Midwest, more out in the Country, respiratory infections can be commonly found here. We use L-Lysine to help aid in these occasional occurrences. Sneezing and watery eyes is common as well, especially with some outside cats that we tend to. These are actually pretty good sized bottles, and last awhile. For the most part, we give it to them via dropper on a plate, and they think it’s a treat. They lap it right up. We’ve noticed a positive difference since using. We also use a Broad Spectrum DEWO and Probiotics. They all seem to work well, and are well liked. $29.99 for (2) 2oz bottles is a pretty fair price, considering the benefits. We give it a Thumbs Up 5 Star Review and Recommendation.

I’ve ordered from this brand a few times and like every other time – I am pleased with the product (set) I received. This product has logical ingredients, arrived well-sealed, and is a GMP certified product. Despite it being a feline product, I home cook food for my nearly 16 year old Rottweiler and like to supplement essential amino acids among other important (micro)nutrients.
I particularly like that this product’s formula also contains taurine in addition to lysine, especially because my dog’s food has chickpeas and lentils which can block taurine absorption. Even though taurine is not as essential amino acid to dogs like it is cats – it is my personal opinion that my current and past dogs have benefited from taurine supplementation – especially in old age. Everything I’ve read as well as my veterinary cardiologist suggests that adequate taurine can lead to supportive heart health in canines. If any dog owners happen to be reading this review, I would encourage you to look into taurine supplementation for your dog(s) as well as BCAAs, or even EAAs (plus arginine – humans require 9 essential amino acids and dogs require the same 9 plus 1 more – l-arginine) especially if they’re elderly.
Beyond that, the product is a very easy to use liquid in a glass amber dropper bottle. A pet parent can simply add it as a topper to your pet’s food. My dog loves the taste of this product and seemingly the smell. I feel like cat products have to taste better than dog products because most dogs aren’t picky at a feline level, so I suspect many other pets’ palates would like this liquid supplement.
Overall, I approve of this product’s quality and value and my senior Rottweiler gave two dew claws up to the flavor. We have received this exaxt product a couple times, and each bottle has been 5 stars, as well as Alfa Pets’ customer service the one time an (Amazon fulfillment rather than brand) issue occurred. Highly recommended, especially for allergy support and overall health. : )

I absolutely love this Liquid L Lysine for cats! I foster kittens for my local animal rescue and I can have anywhere from 10-20 cats at a time with me.
L Lysine is a nutritional supplement and is recommended for use to fight the symptoms of feline herpes. Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) is one of the most common causes of upper respiratory infection and eye problems in cats. L-Lysine supplement helps support normal respiratory health and helps maintain normal eye function and health.
Cats, especially outdoor community cats that are rescued, are notorious for carrying and spreading the feline herpes virus that manifests as sneezing and eye drainage.
We do vaccinate against these viruses; however, because we use a live virus vaccine, it’s not uncommon for cats and kittens to have some sneezing and eye drainage following the administration of their vaccinations. Also, again because it’s a live virus vaccine, it’s common for newly vaccinated kittens to shed some of the virus and cause other kitties to sneeze and have eye drainage as well because of coming in contact with them post vaccination.
Using L Lysine is great for combatting this from happening. If your cat has a tendency to have upper respiratory symptom flare ups, using this supplement 1-2x a day will help to prevent or lessen the frequency of this occurring. I have given this flavored supplement to dozens of kitties, including my own, and have yet to find one that won’t eat it. I just put 1ml on each can of food that I feed them daily and they eat it right up. I have noticed that doing this significantly lessens or completely prevents respiratory flare ups and post vaccination respiratory symptoms.

I feel like embarrassed for not trying this sooner. One of our senior kitties has an ongoing issue with eye crusting and sniffles, especially in winter. I honestly didn’t expect much from this product and was pleasantly surprised. He is the pickiest eater of the group and refused to eat the dosed food for a couple of days. We put it in his favorite treat, Lickables and still no action. So, we gave it to the other 2 senior cats in front of him. By day 3, after watching the other 2 cats get his treats, he decided that the new flavor was fine and started eating it. Now, no problem at all. He is fine with it. I waited to do this review because I wanted to see how it worked for a while first. I learned how important Lysine is for my elderly kitties.
The outcome: I was shocked to see the eye crusting disappear (down about 90%) within a couple of days. I normally clean the crust every morning. But by day 3, there was no crust. No more cleaning Ginger’s eyes. Also, the sniffles stopped. It really worked. I am completely surprised with the outcome and feel foolish for not using Lysine earlier.
The other cats: We only bought it for the one, but the other 2 senior cats were also affected by eating his doses. They became more active and demanding for attention. It’s like they took a drink from the fountain of youth. So now, we will need to use 3 times our planned use, but I don’t mind because the effect is amazing.
Taurine and Vitamin B-complex: It offers more than Lysine. Taurine is included which is incredibly important for kitties. Cats only source of taurine is in their food and most pet food contains the absolute bare minimum. Many cats just don’t get enough in their food. We have supplemented taurine powder in their Lickables treats for years. Now they get it in this supplement along with a vitamin B complex that is also important for the kitties.
Excellent value: I am extremely surprised by the difference this supplement made with my elderly kitties, especially Ginger. This supplement is reasonably priced, my elderly picky cats are willing to eat it, and it has made an incredible difference in their health. If your cats need Lysine, then this supplement offers excellent value and more benefits than expected.
Probiotics: It also contains lactobacillus acidophilus, the same probiotic that we benefit from in quality yogurt to help digestion. My kitties are tolerating it well. They are digesting better and activity level is like several years ago. They are much happier and energetic.
I consider it a blessing to have an opportunity to review this Lysine supplement. I didn’t know that it would have such a positive impact on my Ginger kitty. And I never expected that it would benefit by other senior kitties. Ginger and friends say, “Thank you.”

My vet diagnosed feline herpes after I brought in my newly adopted cat (former stray) due to sneezing, runny nose, and a watery eye. Said she probably got it from living in the cat colony for 2+ years.
The vet prescribed some medication but there was no way I was getting that in her nostrils. I called to see if they had any other ideas and was recommended lysine supplements.
I did a lot of research. As with everything, there were bad things about giving her lysine regularly, and that it’s an old-fashioned cure. I’ll let you do your own research on that.
Anyways, her first bout with the herpes cleared itself up on its own. But then she started showing symptoms again, and this time she wasn’t getting better. Since she’s about to have a tooth pulled and her teeth cleaned, I wanted to get her healthy first so she will recover faster.
We’ve been mixing it with her morning wet food and she’s been eating it no prob. The first few days showed no improvement. Then slowly, her eye started clearing up (still watery at times but not all the time), less wheezing, less nose discharge. Today is day ten and she finally seems like she kicked it! We’re 12 days out from surgery so we’ll keep giving it to her. Might lower the dose a bit though.
Just from my research, I think I’ll start giving her a couple doses a week for maintenance, obviously will increase that if she has another outbreak.
Anyways, not cheap but cheaper than a vet visit. And I don’t have to squirt anything in her nostrils. I’m overall impressed but I’m going to be cautious with how often and how much I give her.
Btw, she’s ten pounds and gets a full dropper daily (for now).
